A perfect book to introduce Westerners to Tibetan Buddhism. This is the genuinely compelling story, and spiritual odyssey, of Ole and Hannah Nydahl, who in 1968 became the first Western students of the great Tibetan master, His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. Their exciting travels on the worn path between the green lowlands of Europe to the peaks of the Himalayas, led them to experience the skillful teachings of numerous Tibetan lamas who helped transform their lives into "limitless clarity and joy." From their first contact with Tibetan Buddhism in Kathmandu in the form of a lama with extraordinary psychic powers, Ole and Hannah encountered the full spectrum of the Buddhist "view." Their aim in writing this book is "to form a bridge between two worlds, and especially to share with all who are looking for their true being ... an introduction to a time-proven way to Enlightenment." "One cannot really transmit anything, except what one has directly experienced, and the reason many of you will be able to identify with what happened to us is that, deep within, we are so very much alike."

Entering the Diamond Way eBook Lama Ole Nydahl

Hannah and Ole Nydahls journey is amazing. This is a spritual autobiography of great importance. It gives a great insight into the awakening of the 1960 and onward and the introduction of tibetan buddhism in the West. Even though I am not a buddhist I still find the book very fascinating and it increased my respect and understanding of the buddhist path.

Entering the Diamond Way eBook Lama Ole Nydahl Reviews

I found this a difficult book to read. I kept thinking this man ought to grow up. And, finally he did. I am so glad I read the book (but sorry I had to wade through the stupid stuff).
Must-have reading for all who wants to know basics of Buddhism, especially Diamond Way Buddhism point of view. Stripped down from cultural traces, pure Buddha's teachings from lama (Buddhist teacher) who meditates 35 years. Was easy to read for me, should be fairly easy for most of you, as Ole says it contains 7 levels of techings. Happy reading!
This is the best book for not only understanding Buddhism, but also seeing how Buddhism is lived in our daily lives. I highly recommend it. I have read it at least 7 times and each time it is fresh and new. Each time I gain more and more insights into Buddhism. I have given this book to countless numbers of friends. If I could only take only 3 books with me to a deserted island this book would be one of them.
This is one of Lama Ole Nydahl's most captivating books, one of his best. It's a superb book about Diamond Way Buddhism. The Lama Ole you get in person, full and every time he teaches, is richly present in this book about his honeymoon in Nepal, his conversion, and SO much after that! He's a great teacher, a realised teacher. Kingdom politics have been played for centuries, perhaps especially in exile. Whatever the real meaning behind the ongoing controversy of two Black Karmapa 17 claimants, Lama Ole Nydahl's teaching is refined by truth tested, a legacy of buddhist teaching that affords faith in the truth, and the understanding attained from it. Entering the Diamond Way is rich and clear, and a beacon of hope.
Completely inspiring, brought me to tears. This book tells a wonderful story of two people who gave up their lives to bring Buddhism to the west.
If you are a student of Lama Ole Nydahl this book is a must. Describes his first contact with buddhism, his background, transformation and development process.

If one is not Lama Ole's student then this book can be intresting and shows has development is going on on the dharma path.
It is very interesting to read about the world at the end of 60's, and it is even more interesting to read how one of a most successful projects of bringing Tibetan Buddhism to the West began. What started as a devotion and search for a meaningful life of a Danish couple - not a wealthy or politically influential one, later become a path for thousands of people across the globe. Lama Ole is very honest, so I enjoyed this reading a lot. It is also amazing to read not just in this book, how the head of Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, 16th Karmapa, being forced to leave Tibet, decided the West is so important for the survival of his school. I guess he never been there and had very few disciples from Europe. The sequel of this book is "Riding the tiger" which is also great.
